TOWN OF MEDFORD, WI (WSAU) — A couple in the Town of Medford was injured when a bear attacked them in their home on Friday.
At about 11:15 PM the couple noticed a bear eating from their backyard birdfeeder. They opened a window to shoo it away, which caused it to charge at the home and break in through the window.
Both the husband and wife were attacked by the female bear and fought back with kitchen knives. The husband then retrieved a firearm and shot the bear dead.
The unidentified couple was treated and released for bites and other injuries. Their children were also home but were in their bedrooms and not harmed.
The Wisconsin DNR has taken possession of the carcass for testing.
The bear did have one cub that ran from the scene just before the attack.
Taylor County Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS responded alongside the DNR.
