Mequon grassroots mom/activist Scarlett Johnson joined me on Feedback #1 and #2 to discuss her experience at the Republican Party of Wisconsin’s state convention last weekend.
We discussed her recent op-ed which thoroughly detailed many attendees’ frustrations, disappointments, and concerns after the ‘no endorsement’ crowd took their ball(s) and went home. Certainly not to be confused with cojones – because although the testosterone levels in the room were high – by far, the candidate with the biggest balls in the Wisconsin gubernatorial race is Rebecca Kleefisch. And she was the only one who had the courage – and confidence – to ask for the delegates’ endorsement.
Scarlett, a first-time delegate and convention attendee, stated that the goal of her group of grassroots activists that participated was to endorse viable state candidates that they believe will best represent conservatism and defeat the Democrats in November. Like me, she expressed her exasperation with the duplicity of the endorsement process – as some statewide candidates – the WI State Treasurer as well as Senator Ron Johnson were endorsed – while others were not. And no one could provide adequate justification for it. Their defense of the no endorsement cop-out was similar to that of the left’s justification of participation trophies, demanding equity in our society, and the excuses used for absentee voting.
Scarlett and I agreed that like the Republican Party endorsement, many in our circles of influence rely upon us come election day to recommend whom they should vote for.
I find it ironic that one candidate gladly accepted the endorsement of the “pillow guy,” another candidate bragged about a former sheriff’s endorsement and the third guy stated he consulted with a “former governor” before running, who gave him his blessing. Anyone else see the hypocrisy in all of this? What a waste of a precious weekend.
