MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – COVID-19 hospitalizations in Wisconsin are at their highest since nearly four and a half months ago.
The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 455 COVID-19 patients, the most since the beginning of March. Wednesday’s total was 15 more than Tuesday’s and 28 more than a week earlier. Of those, 54 were admitted to intensive care, up two in a day but down two since last week.
Northeast region hospitals had 45 COVID-19 patients, 10 fewer than Tuesday and seven fewer than a week ago. Three of those patients were in the ICU, two less than the day before and four less than last week. In the Fox Valley region, there were 15 COVID-19 patients, one more than yesterday and five more than last week. Four of those were in ICUs, up two in a day and since last week.
Overall cases are at a near-seven-week high, according to the state Department of Health Services. There were 2,079 new cases confirmed Tuesday. The seven-day average was up slightly at 1,608.
The seven-day average test positivity was 13.9%.
Two new deaths were reported Tuesday, with the seven-day average dropping to one.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Wisconsin has reported more than 1.5 million cases with 13,189 deaths.
As of Wednesday, 64.6% of state residents had received at least one dose of vaccine, 61.5% had completed the initial vaccine series and 35.1% had received an additional or booster dose.
