A lighter shells practice for the boys on Thursday as they’re putting the finishing touches on preparation for Sunday’s season opener against the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium.
It was another day with Allen Lazard on the sidelines. His ankle injury from getting stepped on last week has left his status for the contest in doubt. Lazard was the only injured player who hasn’t participated at all this week and if unable to work on Friday, it’s unlikely he’ll dress.
Head Coach Matt LaFleur said before practice that both David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins got through Wednesday’s team periods fine and was hopeful to get them more 11 on 11 reps today although reporters aren’t allowed to watch practice beyond stretching and a few minutes of individual drills.
All three players declined to speak to the media in the locker room after practice. Jenkins made a mad dash sprint right past a crowd of reporters yelling “I’ve got to get to a meeting!” Judging from his movement skills toward the meeting rooms, I’d say he close to playing.
Tight end Marcedes Lewis was the only other absentee but it’s part of the routine for the 38 year old, getting his customary veteran’s day of rest.
Aaron Rodgers held his weekly session with the press yesterday and covered a lot of ground, playing the role of the hunted again in the NFC North, another visit to the Vike’s shiny new home, on Robert Tonyan’s readiness, the uncertainty of his Pro Bowl offensive tackles and he began by discussing the prospect of not having WR1 in Lazard, who assumed that role after arguably the NFL’s WR1, Davante Adams moved on. That would leave Randall Cobb, Sammy Watkins and a collection of rookies to throw to.
One more on field workout comes tomorrow before the Packers head west for another border battle with the Minnesotans.
