Residents of Stevens Point will get a chance to help the city push the reset button on the upcoming redesign and reconstruction of Business 51 during an open house Thursday at 6:30.
Representatives from the Department of Transportation, AECOM, and the city will be on hand to explain the need for the project and the different options that can be considered.
Officials have blocked off two hours for the session.
The event will be held at the SPASH auditorium and Mayor Mike Wiza has said he expects well over 100 people to attend. The city will provide materials for residents to take home including a “frequently asked questions” sheet regarding the project. He adds that he knows the divisive nature of the project, and is encouraging everyone to come into the session with a level head no matter what their views on the project are.
He discusses the session in-depth as part of the Mayors Monday segment for this week, click here for more of the conversation. Residents have also been sent postcards with information on the session, and
Wiza and others are also reminding residents to inform themselves about four transportation funding referendum questions that will go before voters on November 8th.
The referendum questions are in no way tied to Business 51, and instead are stand-alone projects that the city has either already budgeted for or has tied to economic development projects. The latter will only be completed if the developments actually happen, and would be paid for out of tax increment financing. They would have zero impact on residential tax rates.
The city has put together a fact sheet about the four projects, which you can find here.
