LONDON, ENGLAND (WTAQ) – Have to admit, the NFL dropped the media headquarters hotel almost in the center of London. I’m staying at the London Marriott Marble Arch, a monument that welcomes visitors to Hyde Park. The hotel is just a couple of blocks away. I brought the walking shoes of course, good thing. After getting settled in, I ventured out twice.
In the afternoon, I strolled north for about 30 minutes, into St. John’s Wood. The most famous street in this section of town of course, is Abbey Road. I couldn’t resist:
Had a fellow tourist take the picture where the Beatles famously crossed Abbey for the iconic album cover photo. The Abbey Road studios are just a couple of doors down from here. I overheard one neighbor talking about how this intersection is overrun with visitors every day. Considering the impact the band had, understandable.
My evening hike took me to the popular Soho section of town. The creators of Cheesehead TV, Aaron Nagler and Corey Behnke advertised a Packer gathering at the Dog and Duck Tavern. It was a gathering all right, dozens of Packer fans filled the bar and spilled onto the street corner.
How small a world is it when you support the Pack? I ran into Steve and Christy, who live just a couple of blocks from me in Green Bay, along with another family who was a high school friend of my son. And then there was Fernando, who came all the way from Uruguay, to see his beloved Packers in London.
Touched by the Packer “Majik”.
It wouldn’t be London without a spot of rain and a steady sprinke chashed me back home through an always bustling Piccadilly Circus where the theaters and restaraunts were doing a booming business.
A couple of long walks after a long day’s travel and a Saturday recovery is needed before heading even further north from the Arch, to Tottenham Stadium for the Packers and Giants tomorrow. I’ll be on the shuttle bus for that.
