MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ) — The Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce announced Anna Mae Robertson as the Grand Marshal of the upcoming Wisconsin Veterans Day Parade. She is a Milwaukee resident and WWII veteran. Robertson was a member of the 6,888th Central Postal Directory Battalion in 1943. Robertson’s Battalion, also known as the “Six Triple Eight,” was sent to Europe in February of 1945 to sort an extensive backlog of mail. It was the only all-African American Women Army Corps Battalion to serve overseas during World War II.
Recently, Mayor Cavalier Johnson presented Robertson with a proclamation in celebration of her military career and civilian accomplishments for her 98th Birthday.
The Wisconsin Veterans Day Parade honors and celebrates the service of Wisconsin’s veterans and their families. The parade is taking place on November 5 in downtown Milwaukee. You can find more information on the event at wiveteransday.org.
