The much-discussed proposal for restructuring the Wausau School District is here.
After receiving the go-ahead from the board to bring the formal plan to completion, the school district will hold an informational meeting on Monday to present the plan to the public.
According to a copy of the presentation published on the district’s website five elementary schools would close out of a group of six- Hewitt-Texas, Grant, Rib Mountain, Lincoln, and either Franklin or Hawthorne. Some of the closed buildings would be repurposed, any unused buildings would then be sold.
Horace Mann and John Muir Middle Schools would be reformatted to bring in students from grades 5 through 7. Students in grades 8 and 9 would go to Junior High at one of the current high school campuses, the other would house grades 10, 11, and 12.
The proposal is similar to the “Plan A” model which was presented to the board late last year. More information on the proposal can be found in the complete 70-slide presentation which you can see by clicking here.
District Administrators will present more information on the plan during the meeting as well, including benefits and drawbacks.
The special meeting is scheduled for 5 PM at Wausau West High School Auditorium. Officials have booked two hours to go over the proposal and discuss any possible action.
The earliest the plan could be implemented is 2025.
It’s also sentencing day for John Sarver, the man found guilty of killing Eleanore Roberts back in 1984. Sarver was found guilty by a jury last November and faces a mandatory life sentence with only the possibility of parole to be discussed.
