George E Wood
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The man believed to be behind a Spectrum internet outage in Wausau last summer has reached a plea deal with the state.
George Wood is said to have cut a cable used to deliver internet service to the city’s west side, which caused numerous outages to residential and business customers.
Police were able to track him down thanks to some surveillance footage from a nearby building, which they released to Facebook. One of their followers identified the man, and they took him into custody about four hours later.
Wood faces one count of criminal damage to a utility, a Class I felony. He faces a maximum sentence of up to three and a half years in prison plus fines. The charges also carry a repeat modifier, which could add to his prison time if he’s found guilty.
The 55-year-old returns to court on April 17th for a plea hearing.
