(Reuters) – The Memphis Police Department said on Friday it had fired an officer involved in the death of Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man who was beaten by officers in the U.S. city last month.
The department named the officer fired as Preston Hemphill. In a statement, it said he had violated department policies on personal conduct, truthfulness and compliance with regulations.
