WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU) — Congressmen Mike Gallagher and Tom Tiffany are both calling for action regarding the Chinese balloon that was discovered in United States airspace this week.
“There’s absolutely NO reason why Communist China is being allowed to fly a spy balloon over the American people,” said 7th District Representative Tiffany in a statement to WSAU News.
Gallagher, WI-8 Tweeted a video on Friday saying he doesn’t buy the narrative that it’s designed to collect weather data, and is calling for the Department of Defense to take it down. “In my opinion, should have been shot down before it even made it into US airspace. Now that it’s over the US we need to take it down safely to prevent further collection near some of our most sensitive military installations.”
Derrick Van Orden, who represents the third district, agrees that the device should be shot down. “This balloon should be in an Air Force hanger being reversed engineered,” he posted to Twitter.
China insists that the balloon is a civilian weather balloon that veered off course. Most everyone in the US Government and court of public opinion has called shenanigans on that explanation.
