MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Gov. Tony Evers has announced that flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin will be flown at half-staff on Monday, Feb. 13, to honor Milwaukee police Officer Peter Jerving, who was killed in the line of duty while pursuing a robbery suspect on Tuesday.
“Officer Jerving was a devoted officer who proudly served his city, having spent most of his life wanting to become an officer. By all accounts, he was a dedicated and distinguished public servant who demonstrated exemplary courage, and his passing is an exceptional loss for the city of Milwaukee and our state,” said Gov. Evers.
In addition to his four years of service with the Milwaukee Police Department, Jerving received the Milwaukee Police Department Merit Award in 2022 for his efforts to save the life of a gunshot victim while working in hazardous conditions.
Jerving’s family has set up the “Officer Jerving End of Watch Fund” with Landmark Credit Union, and the public can donate at any local Landmark Credit Union location. The Milwaukee Police Association Fallen Heroes INC has also established a Fallen Heroes Fund in Jerving’s name. Donations can be made online at milwaukeefallenheroesinc.com/fallen-heroes-funds.
