WISCONSIN (WTAQ-WRN) — Wisconsin’s Attorney General asks for help in an important aspect of crime fighting.
Josh Kaul makes a request Wednesday to help the state’s Justice Department hire 16 new State Crime Lab positions. Funding for those jobs is a part of Governor Tony Evers’ state budget.
Kaul made the request while taking several state lawmakers on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Milwaukee State Crime Lab so the legislators could see the important work done inside.
“Continuing to stay ahead of the curve is really important, both to make sure the criminal justice system is functioning,” said Kaul. “But also because juries expect to see the presentation of scientific evidence.”
Kaul says now is a good time for the Legislature to invest in the Crime Lab with the state’s current budget surplus.
The state crime lab has facilities in Milwaukee, Madison and Wausau.
