WISCONSIN (WTAQ-WRN) — Representative Barbara Dittrich of Oconomowoc says the discovery of an infant’s body in Whitewater over the weekend should not have happened.
Safe Haven laws provide the opportunity to surrender a newborn child to law enforcement or a hospital up to 72 hours after birth with zero questions asked.
“What’s so sad is it’s likely that a person involved in this situation could have availed themselves of that safe haven law.” said Dittrich.
Hospitals, law enforcement, and the state Department of Health Services all have information on Safe Haven.
Police said the newborn’s body was found Saturday morning in a field near a mobile home park.
