WISCONSIN (WTAQ-WRN) — Democrats in the Wisconsin Legislature want to eliminate the cash bail system.
On Thursday, State Senator Chris Larson of Milwaukee said the current system unfairly jails the poor and lets those with the means to pay bail go free.
“How much money makes a person moral? That’s the question we have to ask ourselves when it comes to bail reform.” said Larson. “If you have a number in your head, then you’ve already gone astray.”
The measures are unlikely to get anywhere in the Republican-controlled legislature. A constitutional amendment to toughen the state’s bail rules will be on the ballot in April.
