CAMERON, WI (WSAU) – The names of the two police officers, as well as the suspect, have been released following a critical incident in Barron County over the weekend that killed all three involved. One of the officers killed in the shootout had ties to central Wisconsin.
According to records verified by WAOW, Emily Breidenbach, graduated from Merrill High School in 2009 and studied criminal justice at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice confirms that Cameron police officer Hunter Scheel, 23, and Chetek police officer Emily Breidenbach, 32, stopped Glenn Douglas Perry, 50, on Saturday afternoon.
Officials reported that Perry was stopped for a warrant and to be checked on because of “concerning behavior” during the traffic stop between the towns of Chetek and Cameon.
Perry was carrying a gun at the time of the traffic stop, according to Chetek Police Chief Ron Ambrozaitis, and shots were fired. Breidenbach and Scheel were killed during the incident. Perry passed away in the hospital.
Breidenbach had five years of law enforcement experience, starting with the Stoughton Police Department in Dane County, according to the DOJ. She was there for almost nine months before accepting the position at the Chetek Police Department, where she had worked for roughly four years.
DCI is still reviewing evidence and determining the facts of this incident, and when the investigation is completed, the department will turn over investigative reports to the Barron County District Attorney.
