WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Wausau City Council voted on Tuesday to pass a resolution to close the McClellan parking ramp in downtown Wausau.
The Council discussed at length the process that a project like this needs to go through. Alderman Larson asked that the resolution be returned to CISM (Capital Improvement and Street Maintenance) to ensure the proper protocol is followed.
Alderman Rasmussen spoke about the ramp and the clear safety issues it presents to anyone who has parked on it in recent years. She noted how the ramp shakes as cars drive by and referenced the recent report that shows that the top level is no longer believed to be stable.
City Engineer Allen Wesolowski said he believes this resolution would save the city money over time and that “we’re looking at $325,000 as the estimate we got to keep it open for the next two years, and to even keep it open for a year, we’re looking at around $135,000, so if we can close it down in June, we can avoid those costs.”
Alderman Gissileman, Alderman Diny, Alderman Kilian, Alderman Larson, Alderman Watson and Alderman Henke all voted to send the resolution to CISM for further evaluation.
