MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Black student leaders on the UW Madison campus are asking for more to happen, following a widely circulated social media post of a white student using racial slurs and dehumanizing language.
Black Student Law Association President Jekiah Manor spoke on this issue:
“This should bring a huge and robust realization to this campus that racism is here and it’s active and present in every single day,” said Manor. “And that black and brown students experience it every single day but that it’s just not always videotaped.”
Hundreds of students demonstrated on campus on Wednesday, with many calling for the offending student to be expelled.
So far, officials have said UW can’t limit what people post to personal social media and can’t take action against posts that aren’t unlawful.
