MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Governor Tony Evers wants more for local governments, from Republican legislators at the Capitol.
Evers put out a statement just prior to a Thursday public hearing on a new shared revenue plan.
“The state must step up more than what I’ve seen,” said Governor Evers. “It’s why I can’t support the Republican plan as is and frankly I’ll veto it in its entirety.”
That prompted a response from committee chair, Representative Todd Novak.
“We’re already starting the saber rattling, and there will be some adjustments and changes to this bill, correct?” said Novak.
Then Senator Mary Felzkowski said “It’s part of the sausage making.”
The bill would provide $227 million in new state funding for local governments, with limits on what the new revenues could be spent on.
