MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Be sure to do some research before you pay for a vacation resort this summer.
State Consumer Protection’s, Michelle Reinen, says scammers have been making fake Airbnb and VRBO listings with fake reviews to entice people.
“If they all appear during a very short period of time, or have goofy names, or that every single one is positive and five stars, there’s no four-star or three-star, nothing ever went wrong…” said Reinen.
She says you may consider going with traditional resorts or rentals, but make sure to read any rental agreement before you sign a reservation, and don’t pay in cash ahead of time.
Also, be sure the rental actually exists by looking for reviews or checking out the property’s address online.
