WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – As construction on the Wausau Opportunity Zone continues, residents are getting some updated timelines on some of the city’s biggest projects.
The Wausau Opportunity Zone has been working on several projects around downtown including The Foundry on 3rd and the Children’s Imaginarium which is currently scheduled to open this October.
President of Wausau Opportunity Zone David Eckmann says in a press release that, “Since day one, we have seen that the promise of this project will make Wausau a premier destination in central Wisconsin for talent attraction, retention, and economic development. The ripple effect of this project will transform our area. Wausau’s future is bright.”
Eckmann pointed out that some of the most significant updates would be made to the streets surrounding the downtown area, which may affect some locals who frequently visit Wausau’s downtown.
In September, the Wausau Common Council approved the general development plan for the downtown mall revitalization project, green-lighting the $44 million project that will dynamically and responsibly reestablish the downtown for the next 50 years.
Eckmann stated that it’s important that residents continue to shop and visit local restaurants downtown while construction continues and that updates on the projects can be found at Downtownrefresh.org.
