WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – The missing Titanic tourist submersible, which was carrying five passengers, has been identified as part of a recently found debris field, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. All five people on board are thought to be dead.
According to the USCG, the Titan submersible’s tail cone was located around 1600 feet off the Titanic’s bow by a remotely operated vehicle from the Vessel Horizon Arctic.
“The debris is consistent with the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber. Upon this determination, we immediately notified the families on behalf of the United States Coast Guard and the entire unified command,” USCG said.
The business behind the missing Titanic tourist submersible, OceanGate Expeditions, stated Thursday afternoon that the tourists on board are believed to have “sadly been lost.”
“We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet have sadly perished.” “This is a very sad time for the entire explorer community, and for each of the family members of those lost at sea. We respectfully ask that the privacy of these families be respected during this most painful time,” said OceanGate in a statement.
The victims include OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, Paul-Henry Nargeolet, Billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son.
