PLOVER, WI (WSAU) — Plover Village Administrator Steve Kunst sat down for this week’s Mayor’s Monday.
During the conversation, Kunst discussed several things going on around the city, including the upcoming U.S. Senior Open and what it’s like preparing for such a major event.
“The service industry (in Plover) has been preparing for this for quite a long time, and the area visitors bureau has been really good about getting information out there and coordinating with everybody, and our partners up in Stevens Point have done a fantastic job getting everything organized, updating numbers as they come in, and just laying out the playbook for what we need to do,” Kunst said.
He noted that the village will also have a second major event happening in the area that same weekend in the Plover Whiting Youth Athletics Tournament, which is expected to bring in more than 100 teams along with all of their families.
The 2025 NFL Draft coming to Green Bay will also have a major impact on Plover, as people flying in to attend the draft will be looking for hotels and places to stay while visiting. Kunst said that along with the village’s new Plover Area Visitor’s Bureau Executive Director, Malorie Paine, they’ve been working on plans for the event.
“The crowds won’t just be isolated to Green Bay itself, and they’ve been very open about that. One of their missions has been to coordinate with the communities around them to ensure that those counties and the draft have enough lodging so visitors can have a fantastic time in Northeast and Northcentral Wisconsin.” Kunst continued by saying, “We’ll certainly be prepared to contribute any way we can to ensure that people who are coming to our area are going to come to Plover and have a wonderful time.”
Kunst also discussed the excitement around the village’s 80th Celebrate Plover event at Lake Pacawa Park, which is happening on Friday, July 28th, and Saturday, July 29th. This is the first year that it will be a two-day event, and everything (outside of food) will be free for visitors to see and experience, including the hot air balloon glow that will feature six hot air balloons along with the band Southbound set to perform.
Visitors are encouraged to check out ploverwi.gov/calendar to see the many upcoming events happening in the village this summer.
