WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – According to the most recent predictions from Angel Studios, the movie “Sound of Freedom,” featuring actor Jim Caviezel, has officially grossed over $40 million in total ticket sales.
The film premiered on July 4 and swiftly rose to the top of the box office. The true story follows former federal agent Tim Ballard who, after saving a boy who was being trafficked, quits his job to find and rescue the boy’s sister in South America.
“As with our July 4th numbers, today’s numbers exceed our expectations, and we’re going to continue this momentum. SOUND of FREEDOM has taken on a life of its own. We’re getting messages from all over the country telling us about packed theaters, sold-out theaters, and spontaneous standing ovations for the film in numerous locations. Seeing this film has become a must thanks to incredible word-of-mouth,” Brandon Purdie, Head of Theatrical Distribution at Angel Studios, said in Sunday’s press release.
The movie, which is playing in 2,850 theaters, is expected to earn close to $20 million over the week, bringing the overall box office total to $40 million, according to the release.
Similar figures were provided by Box Office Mojo, who estimated that “Sound of Freedom” had made just over $18 million domestically over the weekend and slightly more than $40 million overall.
UFC President Dana White also announced over the weekend that the company would be paying for all of his employees to see the popular film.

The movie “Sound of Freedom” outperformed “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which was seen in roughly 2,000 more theaters and had a whopping $295 million budget. The franchise’s follow-up earned $11 million and came in second over the July 4th weekend.
Sound Of Freedom currently holds a 76% tomato-meter from critics and a 99% audience score on the rating website Rotten Tomatoes further indicating the film’s strong performance.
Currently, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny as well as the newly released horror film Insidious: The Red Door have passed the Sound Of Freedom in ticket sales over this past weekend, but many insiders believe the film’s momentum is showing no signs of slowing down.
