MADIOSN, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — The Wisconsin DNR is joining the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Iowa officials to help protect Effigy Mounds National Monument from washing away from repeated flooding.
Corps’ project manager, Kim Warshaw, says they’re exploring all options.
“We’re looking at using river sand and using different types of rock to stabilize that shoreline to ensure that the mounds don’t continue to erode into the river,” said Warshaw.
Climate change isn’t the only thing causing worsening floods, but also river controls elsewhere along the Mississippi River.
The park contains 200 mounds built by over a dozen Native American tribes.
