Wausau Woodchucks
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Battle Creek took game two against Wausau at Athletic Park winning 10-8 and sweeping Tuesday’s doubleheader.
Wausau (7-8/27-23) would have an electric start, scoring five runs in the first and three more in the second.
The Woodchucks looked to have the game in control until Battle Creek (10-7/20-31) would score eight runs in the fifth – highlighted by a Brock Daniels (Missouri) two-out grand slam which would tie the game. The Battle Jacks would score two more in the sixth, giving them the first and only lead they needed to
win.
Drew Berkland (Minnesota) had a two-hit game, including his fifth home run of the season. His three-run long ball to left field at the time gave Wausau an 8-0 lead.
Battle Creek never trailed in game one en route to a 5-2 win. They would go up 5-0 before Wausau (7-7/27-22) would score their first runs of the game from Mike Maginnis’ (Georgia State) third home run of the season – a two-run shot to left field.
Only four hits and those two runs did not cut it in game one though.
Dominick Reid (Oklahoma State) had his best outing of the season, going 4.1 innings and striking out seven batters while only allowing three hits.
The Woodchucks will remain at home tomorrow, July 19, to face the Battle Creek Battle Jacks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm and it will be our 30th season throwback night, sponsored by Aspirus Health.
