WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man is facing reckless homicide and drug-related felonies in connection with his girlfriend’s overdose death in May.
Officers say Andrew Washburn and the unidentified woman had ingested drugs in the bathroom of a Wausau apartment where they had been staying with family. Another person in the apartment called the police when they heard “moaning” coming from the bathroom, and when officers arrived they briefly attempted life-saving measures on the woman before determining that she had passed.
Her death was later ruled a “mixed drug toxicity overdose.” Washburn later told police that he had purchased the drugs from another man, who told him to take them with caution because he had “been putting fentanyl in everything.”
Charges against Washburn include a Class C felony for reckless homicide through the delivery of drugs and a pair of Class E felony counts for manufacturing or delivering fentanyl and an amphetamine. He also faces two counts of bail jumping.
The 34-year-old is scheduled to return to court on Wednesday for a review hearing. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Monday.
