MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — An arrest is made in a brutal attack in downtown Madison that critically injured a UW student.
26 year old Brandon Andre Thompson was booked into the Dane County Jail just after 7 a.m. Wednesday on tentative charges of first-degree reckless injury, first-degree sexual assault, and strangulation.
Assistant Madison Police Chief Paige Valenta talked about the victim.
“Her life is forever changed. Her family’s life is forever changed,” said Valenta. “We will continue to work hard to ensure that Mr. Thompson is held fully accountable in a court of law for the heinous act that he perpetrated.”
Officers say video surveillance played a crucial role in the case, as detectives were able to read a license plate that directly led to the identification of the suspect.
Investigators say the assailant claimed to be a witness to the violent Sunday morning assault before leaving the scene in his vehicle.
He was later picked up by police in Fitchburg and is being held in the Dane County Jail.
