MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — State Senate democrats want to get rid of Wisconsin’s tipped minimum wage.
Milwaukee state senator Chris Larson says people in the service industry shouldn’t need to worry about impressing people to survive.
“They need the predictability of a regular paycheck, not the stress and insecurity of relying on strangers’ generosity to pay their bills,” said Larson.
Larson says nearly 46% of tipped workers in Wisconsin rely on public benefits to get by, while still working full time hours.
The bill would set server minimum wages to the standard federal minimum of $7.25 an hour, instead of the current minimum which is just over $2 an hour.
