GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – As the Green Bay Packers offense continues to struggle, head coach Matt LaFleur and quarterback Jordan Love are searching for ways to clean up the errors.
“I think there are critical errors in these situations,” said Jordan Love after the game. “It’s on everybody. Not starting the game fast. Not putting up points quickly comes back to bite us in the end. We’re trying to do everything we can to fight and claw, and I think everyone does that. The effort is always there. Everybody’s fighting. Everybody’s straining. But, like I said, not putting up points in the first half is coming back to bite us.”
One of the Packers’ biggest issues the team has seen is consistently playing from third and long situations due to penalties, and coach LaFleur says the game-ending interception was tough to see. “That was critical. Another critical penalty at the end of the game It just seems like there are a lot of those critical mistakes that keep popping up, and those are things that cost you. We had a lot of penalties in this game, and I thought the previous couple of games we’d done a better job of not getting penalized, but unfortunately, today it was a problem.”
Love also weighed in on the final play that resulted in an interception, saying, “Last play, we dialed up a play that is made for that coverage, trying to get a shot over the top to Samori, and the back-side safety made a good play, reading out of it and staying over the top on him. So I tried to put a ball where you can make it on the left side of the safety, and the back-side safety was able to make a play on that.”
According to ESPN Stats and Info, Love is now just 6-27 (22%) with 0 TDs and 3 INTs for throws 20+ yards downfield. Green Bay has also now scored 20 or fewer points in four straight games for the first time since 2005 when they did it six times in a row on the way to a 4-12 season.
The Packers will hope to bounce back as they return home to face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at noon on FOX.
