(WTAQ-WLUK) — To ensure public safety, some Brown County Park areas will be closed during the deer gun season.
The following areas will close at sunrise on opening day, Saturday, Nov. 18, through the end of the season, at sunset on Sunday, Nov. 26:
Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve and the Fort Howard Paper Foundation Wildlife Area
- Trails and grounds will be closed to all entry during the deer gun season except by those persons possessing a valid county special hunt permit. All permits have already been issued. The Interpretive Center at Barkhausen will remain open during regular hours to the public.
Reforestation Camp
- Because hunting is allowed in designated areas of the Reforestation Camp, all trails will be closed for the deer gun season. The playground and fishing ponds at the Reforestation Camp will remain open to the public.
Lily Lake Park
- Lily Lake Park picnic grounds and boat launch remain open to the public during this hunting season. Please be aware that while these areas of the park remain open, gun hunting is allowed in designated areas of this property.
Vande Hei property
The Vande Hei Property will only be open to hunter access during this season. Non-hunters are not allowed on the property during the season.
If you plan to use open areas of these parks, it’s recommended to wear blaze orange for safety.
Hunting is prohibited on both the Fox River Trail and Mountain-Bay Trail. Hiking and biking are allowed on the trails, however adjoining private property may be open to hunting. It is recommended that hikers and bikers wear blaze orange for safety.
Hunters, as always, should follow Wisconsin’s safe hunting practices:
T = Treat every firearm as if it were loaded
A = Always point the muzzle in a safe direction
B = Be certain of your target and what’s beyond it
K = Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot
