MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly looking to promote bench coach Pat Murphy.
Ken Rosenthal at The Athletic yesterday said the Brewers will name Murphy their new manager. The team hasn’t confirmed the report, or said anything else about a new manager.
It would not be surprising if Murphy is promoted to the top job. He’s spent the past eight season as Brewer bench coach, and was the only person named by Brewers general manager Matt Arnold when he talked about hiring a replacement for Craig Counsell.
Murphy has limited major league managerial experience but did manage in San Diego’s minor league system and was a head coach for major college programs at Notre Dame and Arizona State.
The Brewers have already announced that the other coaches on staff would be returning next season.
