RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — After warm weather canceled their pre-Thanksgiving plans, Granite Peak Ski Resort will officially open for the season later this week.
Officials say that colder weather and dry conditions have helped them accelerate the snow-making process, meaning they will be ready to have six runs and three lifts operating by Friday, December 1st at 9 AM.
“Temperatures in the teens have helped our snow stay super ‘dry’ or less water within the snowflakes we’re dropping,” read a post on the resort’s website. They add that the conditions won’t require them to let the freshly made snow “drain” before opening the runs.
Trails that will be open include:
- Summit Trail
- Sundance
- Exhibition
- Aspen
- Hot Cocoa
- Meadow
Skiers will use Comet 6, Blitzen 3, and Blizzard Carpet lifts.
Previous plans had called for opening day to happen by November 22nd. But a Halloween heat wave brought snow-making operations to a halt.
