MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — U.S. Senator Ron Johnson says he wants any aid to Ukraine tied to southern border crossing benchmarks.
The Wisconsin Republican says he wants the U.S. to release funding to Ukraine on a monthly basis and only if the US government can meet metrics showing a decrease in illegal border crossings.
Johnson said if the Biden administration fails to meet a benchmark a tranche of funding for Ukraine would be withheld.
Johnson’s proposal comes as a bipartisan group of Senators is hoping to reach a border deal that would allow Congress to release billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine.
