Drew Doughty scored 33 seconds into overtime as the Los Angeles Kings scored four unanswered goals to beat the host Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 on Tuesday night.
Los Angeles tied an NHL record with 10 straight road wins to open a season. The 2006-07 Buffalo Sabres also accomplished the feat.
With the Kings trailing 3-0 entering the third period, Phillip Danault scored twice and Arthur Kaliyev once in the first 6:38 to tie it.
Doughty’s one-timer early in the extra session capped the improbable and historic night for the Kings, who have won seven of their past eight games.
Devils 6, Canucks 5
Jesper Bratt scored two goals, including the game-winner with 34 seconds to go, as visiting New Jersey defeated Vancouver to claim a fourth win in five games.
Jack Hughes had a goal and two assists and his younger brother, Luke Hughes, also scored for the Devils in the first NHL game featuring all three Hughes brothers. Vancouver’s Quinn Hughes, the oldest brother, picked up two assists to give him 36 points for the season, the most for a defenseman in the NHL. Parents Ellen and Jim Hughes were in the stands as their family became the ninth in NHL history to have at least three sons play in the same game. Erik Haula and Michael McLeod also scored goals and Vitek Vanecek made 28 saves for the Devils.
J.T. Miller had a goal and two assists for Vancouver, Brock Boeser had a goal and an assist and Dakota Joshua, Sam Lafferty and Nils Hoglander also scored. Thatcher Demko finished with 26 saves.
Avalanche 3, Ducks 2
Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and two assists, Kurtis MacDermid and Logan O’Connor also scored, and Colorado ended a three-game losing streak with a win over Anaheim in Denver.
Jonathan Drouin also had two assists and Alexandar Georgiev turned away 31 shots for the Avalanche. Colorado was without defenseman Cale Makar (lower-body injury) for the second straight game.
Sam Carrick and Leo Carlsson tallied goals and Josh Gibson made 27 saves for Anaheim. The Ducks have lost nine of their last 10 games.
Predators 4, Blackhawks 3 (SO)
Ryan O’Reilly scored the go-ahead goal in a shootout and had a power-play goal in regulation and Juuse Saros stopped 25 shots to lift visiting Nashville to win over Chicago.
The Predators outscored the Blackhawks 3-1 in the shootout, with Chicago’s lone goal coming from rookie Connor Bedard. Nashville stretched its road point streak against Chicago to 12 games while moving to 15-1-3 vs. the Blackhawks in the past 19 meetings.
Nick Foligno had two goals and an assist for the Blackhawks, while Seth Jones added a pair of assists.
Senators 6, Rangers 2
Vladimir Tarasenko had two goals and an assist for host Ottawa in a blowout win over New York.
Brady Tkachuk scored twice, Drake Batherson had a goal and two assists and Anton Forsberg made 33 saves for the Senators, who have won two in a row following a three-game losing streak.
Artemi Panarin had a goal and an assist, K’Andre Miller also scored and Igor Shesterkin made 30 saves for the Rangers, who had won three in a row and six of seven.
Red Wings 5, Sabres 3
Detroit captain Dylan Larkin scored two goals, including an empty-netter, as Detroit jumped on slumping Buffalo early and held off the host Sabres.
Like Larkin, Robby Fabbri also scored in the first period to bring his total to eight in 12 games. He also had an assist. Red Wings goaltender Alex Lyon stopped 29 shots and was victorious for his fourth consecutive start.
Jeff Skinner logged a goal and an assist and Rasmus Dahlin and Casey Mittelstadt also scored for the Sabres, who took their fourth straight defeat.
Wild 5, Flames 2
Matt Boldy scored twice as part of a three-point game and Kirill Kaprizov recorded one goal and one assist to lead visiting Minnesota past Calgary.
Marcus Foligno and Joel Eriksson Ek also scored for the Wild, who have won four consecutive games since John Hynes took over as coach. Goaltender Filip Gustavsson made 28 saves.
Mats Zuccarello increased his point streak to 10 games with an assist. He has tallied 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) during that span.
Sharks 5, Islanders 4 (OT)
William Eklund scored with 4.3 seconds left in overtime to cap a dramatic comeback by San Jose, which scored four unanswered goals in the final 13-plus minutes to stun New York in Elmont, N.Y.
Tomas Hertl had a hat trick and Kevin Labanc scored with 8:05 left in regulation to begin the comeback for San Jose, which has won four of its past six games (4-2-0) since a 3-15-2 start. The Sharks have scored 16 goals in their past three games after scoring just 36 in their first 23 games. San Jose goalie Kaapo Kahkonen made 33 saves.
Julien Gauthier, Brock Nelson, Mike Reilly and Ryan Pulock scored for the Islanders, whose third-period struggles continued even as they collected a point for the ninth time in 10 games (5-1-4). Ilya Sorokin recorded 32 saves. New York has been outscored 34-17 in the third period this season.
