MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — The city of Milwaukee is measuring out its security plans around next summer’s Republican National Convention.
Four years ago, when the 2020 Democratic National Convention was planned to be staged in downtown Milwaukee, a security zone was to cover the full areas around the key convention locations, including the Fiserv Forum and nearby Panther Arena. The pandemic led to that convention becoming a virtual event instead.
Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman says plans for the 2024 GOP convention have similarities to the 2020 edition, adding the sensitive balance between convention-goer safety and trouble-free city-dweller access
“What can we do to ensure that we are going to respect the operations here, the residents here, but yet still be ready to hold a massive undergoing in regards to the convention?” said Norman.
The convention will be held from July 15 – 18 of next year.
