WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – California’s secretary of state has published the certified list of candidates for the March 5, 2024, primary election, and former President Trump is listed as a candidate.
According to the Post Millennial, despite pleas from her Democratic colleagues to strike Donald Trump off the list, Shirley Weber insisted that the previous president qualified and added him.
“I must place the sanctity of these elections above partisan politics,” Weber said in response, adding that her office “has been engaged in multiple lawsuits regarding the former President’s appearance on the ballot.”
The outlet previously reported that Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis of California pressured Weber to “explore every legal option” to take Trump off the ballot before the document was made public.
Weber’s decision comes not long after Maine’s Secretary of State Shenna Bellows declared former President Trump ineligible under the Constitution’s insurrection clause. Maine State Rep. John Andrews has since filed a request for a joint order to impeach Bellows due to her decision.
