NEW YORK CITY (WSAU) – After agreeing to host an event with Donald Trump while other GOP candidates participate in CNN’s Iowa debate, Fox News announced on Wednesday that it will also host town halls with Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley next week.
Both forums, which will focus on women’s issues, are scheduled to take place in Des Moines, Iowa, according to the New York Post. On January 8, Haley will hold her town hall, and on January 9, DeSantis will hold his.
The events will air at 5 p.m. CST, which is the hour that co-moderator Bret Baier’s “Special Report” program typically occupies.
Republican contender Vivek Ramaswamy will also not be participating in CNN’s Town Hall. The businessman told supporters that the event “will be the most boring in history” and that he will participate in “a live-audience show that night in Des Moines with [Tim Pool] instead.”
According to The Post, Fox News announced the two extra town halls in response to criticism that the network was providing Trump with a way to avoid debating against his two closest competitors.
The latest GOP primary poll from the Morning Consult found that former President Trump has a 55-point lead over the other candidates, while USA Today/Suffolk shows Trump up by 49 points over Nikki Haley.
