KRONENWETTER, WI (WSAU) — Former Plover Administrator Dan Mahoney will continue to be “on call” for the Village of Kronenwetter.
On Monday, the Village Board approved a contract agreement calling for Mahoney to provide mentorship services to incoming Administrator Leonard Ludi. Village President Chris Voll says there’s no doubt that with a little bit of training, Ludi will pick up on all the skills needed to excel in the position. “I always thought it was important that the [new] Administrator have Wisconsin knowledge as well as general knowledge,” said Voll. “So I got with Dan and we crafted this mentoring contract for whoever would be the Administrator.”
Voll says that was long before Ludi expressed interest in the position, as many of the applicants they got were from outside Wisconsin. He notes that Ludi has been a quick learner in his short time with the Village and doesn’t seem to have a problem teaching himself, but there’s still something to be said from learning from someone who’s been there.
“The League [of Municipaliteis] has a lot of good resources out there, but sometimes just talking with a guy that has had that position helps. It’s traveling knowledge that you are getting out of Dan and into Leonard. A lot of the time, you won’t get that from online [resources], sometimes it’s just best to sit down, have a coffee, and talk to somebody that’s been there,” said Voll.
The agreement calls for Mahoney to be available one or two days a week for a few hours. He’ll be paid $75 per hour for his services plus mileage for any in-person meetings. Voll says the payment is not guaranteed and all services will be provided ‘as needed,’ meaning if there are times when Ludi feels all he needs is one hour over Zoom to ask a few questions, then that’s all they’ll do.
“Then that’s better for everyone because Dan doesn’t have to spend the time to drive up here [from Plover,]” added Voll.
Ludi was offered the position last Monday after serving four months as the Public Works Director. His hire ended an 18-month search for a full-time Administrator that saw four different people, including Mahoney, serve in an interim capacity. The Village also rescinded full-time offers from two candidates due to various issues.
