WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Wausau City Hall will be receiving some much-needed security upgrades this year, with hopes that they will help staff and employees monitor visitors throughout the day.
Plans include a secure entrance in the lobby, which would put access to the elevators, stairs, and basement level behind a transparent glass partition wall with a guarded entry. The municipal clerk’s office will be relocated to the present Birch Room with a bullet-resistant aperture into the lobby, and all glass will be bullet-resistant.
Wausau Public Work’s Director Eric Lindman says the upgrades will help staff better know who is in the building, saying, “We continue to have just individuals wondering through city hall who have no specific business there, so I think one of the things is to make sure people can get where they need to go and people that are coming into city hall that have a specific purpose to go up.”
The project is expected to cost around $250,000 and will be completed later this year.
