SARATOGA, WI (WSAU) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident in rural Wood County.
Officers say 70-year-old Wayne Wrigley of Wisconsin Rapids has admitted to striking an unoccupied truck as it was being loaded onto a trailer while traveling east on Ranger Road.
The incident occurred last Friday. Three people suffered minor injuries as a result of the impact.
Witnesses described the vehicle as a late 2000s Hyundai Elantra with recognizable front-end damage. They canvassed the neighborhoods near the accident site and stepped up patrols going into the weekend.
At some point during the weekend, the Sheriff’s Office received a tip about an Elantra with front-end damage. Officers made contact with the driver, who admitted to the accident.
Wrigley was immediately cited for inattentive driving and failure to notify police of an accident. A single charge of hit-and-run, causing injury has been forwarded to the Wood County District Attorney for consideration.
