GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Two former Packers are on the move following a busy day, not just in Green Bay but around the league.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal with former Packers running back Aaron Jones after he declined to restructure his contract in Green Bay. The Vikings will also be releasing former Packers defensive lineman Dean Lowery to clear a roster spot for Jones and their other signings.
ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported details on how the Jacobs vs. Jones situation in Green Bay went down, saying talks between the Packers and Jones broke down last week and began exploring other options, such as Josh Jacobs, not long after. Jones was set to earn $12 million in 2024 after agreeing to a $5 million pay cut last offseason and was not willing to take another cut this offseason, which Demovsky reports would’ve paid him around $7 million to stay in Green Bay.
The Packers and former All-Pro Josh Jacobs, 26, will officially agree to the proposed 4-year $48 million deal tomorrow when the new league year begins. Meanwhile, Jones will join a long list of former Packers to join the Vikings, including Greg Jennings, Brett Farve, Ryan Longwell, Javon Walker, Za’Darius Smith, and Darren Sharper, among many others.
