GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A family member of Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg received a threatening message from someone pretending to be the Green Bay Police Department.
The message contains several expletives and sayd “you’re lucky we don’t hang you for what you did to Wausau.” This message was sent to a member of Rosenberg’s family, threatening their lives, and accusing them of taking money.
The Mayor took to social media and called the text “unhinged.”
Despite not actually being Jewish, she says she gets messages like this all the time because of her last name. She says it’s important to stand up to hate at a moment like this.
Rosenberg said, “You stand up to antisemitism always. It’s inappropriate always, and we have a small Jewish community here in Wausau and they’re looking at me too and they’re saying, oh my gosh, if she’s putting up with this, what are we going to put up with? And so, I don’t want them to put up with anything.”
Rosenberg’s opponent, Alderman Doug Diny, weighed in and said hate is not acceptable. He referred us to a previous press release that stated: “Every American, no matter their race, creed, or religion, has the right to pursue a better life for themselves and their families and they should feel comfortable doing so in our great community. Hate has no home in Wausau.”
Rosenberg forwarded the threat to the Anti-Defamation League.
