PARK FALLS, Wis. (WAOW-WSAU) — A salon in Park Falls is helping girls have a night to remember, while also helping them save money.
“SDW Styling” is offering free salon-quality hair styling for girls on the day of their prom, through a campaign dubbed “Project Prom.” Owner Shelbe Wegner said the idea originated after previously working an event in Appleton that was somewhat alike.
“I used to work on, ‘Operation Cinderella,’ and it was something kind of similar, however, it was never on prom,” she recalled.
This promtion offers girls the chance to get their hair done on the day of prom, while also saving a good amount of money. “Depending on where you live, the price can vary from $45 all the way up to $80. I know a lot of families can’t afford to do that for their kids,” Wegner said.
The first session was held Saturday for Chequamegon High School students. Another will be held April 27 , for Butternut High School students. Sessions are first come, first serve. Those who get their hair done, also have the opportunity of getting their nails and makeup taken care of. All attendees will also recieve a gift basket as well.
“It allows people in the area to feel confident on their prom day and just feel beautiful, and give them a little something to feel special, versus feeling bad that they couldn’t get their hair done,” Wegner said.
This is the first iteration of Project Prom, and one of Wegner’s goals is to expand and to not only offer hair services, but to also have options of dresses for girls to wear for their proms.
