GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers are hosting LSU’s defensive lineman Maason Smith for an official visit this weekend and hosting a virtual meeting with North Carolina wide receiver Devontez Walker.
The Packers have taken long looks at a few different defensive lineman prospects, such as Ohio State’s Michael Hall Jr. and Northern Iowa’s Khristian Boyd, as the team looks to reload on the defensive line as Kenny Clark enters his possibly final year with the Packers.
Former Five-Star recruit Maason Smith finished his three-season career with 22 games played and 17 starts, 47 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and two pass breakups. After producing 5.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks in just nine games in 2021, he was named a Freshman All-American. However, he missed the entire 2022 season due to an ACL tear sustained in the season’s opening game.
Meanwhile, Devontez Walker is the latest receiver to meet with Green Bay after the team hosted former Alabama star Jermaine Burton, Arizona’s Jacob Cowing, and Texas receivers Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy. Walker, who stands at 6’2, ran a 4.36 40-yard dash, and scouts at NFL Draft Buzz note that he is “equally dangerous in catch-and-run situations as Walker is taking the top off a defense” and “tracks the ball well downfield and consistently runs under long throws.”
The Packers are looking to add another receiver as the long-term future of Christian Watson with the team remains unknown, and NFC North teams such as the Chicago Bears have added weapons like Keenan Allen and Gerald Everett this offseason.
