WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – A new poll shows a large portion of voters do not believe former President Donald Trump committed a crime in the alleged hush money case in New York City involving Stormy Daniels.
According to an AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll released Tuesday, only 35% believe Trump, 77, behaved unlawfully in allegedly concealing payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election to keep her quiet about an alleged romance.
Another 14% of respondents to the survey stated that the 45th president had done nothing wrong, while 31% of Americans believed Trump had acted unethically but not unlawfully in the situation. Approximately 19% of Americans stated they lacked sufficient knowledge to form an opinion on the case.
Trump has denied both legal misconduct and having an affair with Daniels. He faces 34 charges of falsifying company documents to conceal payments he made to his then-attorney Michael Cohen for the $130,000 Cohen paid Daniels in 2016.
The trial comes as the latest New York Times/Siena poll shows Trump and Biden statistically tied nationally in the race for the presidency, while 62% of respondents preferred the former president to fix the economy, and 51% said they also preferred Trump over Biden to fix the crisis facing the nation’s immigration system.
