GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers wide receiver got a little deeper on Thursday as the team has now begun listing former USFL MVP and 2023 third-string quarterback Alex McGough as a wide receiver opening a possible roster spot for 2024 7th round selection Michael Pratt on the 53-man roster.
According to the Packers Wire, McGough has no prior experience as a wide receiver. At 6-3 and 214 pounds, the 28-year-old McGough recorded solid times for a quarterback on his pro day before the 2018 draft, hitting 32.5 inches in the vertical, running the three-cone drill in 7.27 seconds, and running the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds. However, those totals for receiver performance would be considerably below average.
Still, this move will officially square backup quarterback Sean Clifford and former Tulane star Michael Pratt up for a position battle to see who will backup Jordan Love in 2024. In his three seasons as a team captain at Tulane, Pratt totaled 90 touchdown passes against just 26 interceptions and averaged a stellar 8.8 yards per pass attempt in 2022 and 8.5 yards per attempt in 2023.
“Obviously a winner,” said GM Brian Gutekunst of Pratt after the draft. “He really turned that program around. Started a lot of games for them. I think he won 21 or more games over the past two years. He’s a good athlete. He’s got a pretty live arm. Very accurate.”

“Just like the way he handled himself. He had some big wins, so we’re excited. I wanted to add a quarterback and a bunch went early, so there wasn’t a lot of guys available in the mid-rounds. So as we got later and later he was kind of the only left that we wanted to target, so that was kind of nice,” Gutekunst added further.
