HUDSON, WI (WSAU) – A Wisconsin elementary school teacher was arrested Wednesday after allegedly having an affair with a student.
According to CBS Minnesota, Madison Bergmann, 24, a 5th-grade teacher at River Crest Elementary in Hudson, has been placed on administrative leave and barred from contacting any district students, parents, or staff after her affair with the student was revealed by the 11-year-old’s parents.
After discovering conversations between the two, the student’s parents confronted Bergmann with printouts of the alleged texts, which included messages detailing several encounters with the teacher that allegedly occurred in the classroom during the school’s lunch period as well as after school. Court documents further claim that she told the student how much she liked them touching her and “making out” with her in alleged handwritten notes with the student that were discovered in her purse, with one allegedly saying, “One of my cousins is in the 5th grade, and I can’t imagine a man talking to her how we talk. I know we have a special relationship, and I do love you more than anyone in the world, but I have to be the adult here and stop.”
At this time, it remains unknown how long the relationship had been going on due to Bergmann requesting an attorney when confronted by police. The outlet notes that Bergmann has been charged with one count of first-degree child sexual assault and was released after posting a $25,000 signature bond.
