HUDSON, WI (WSAU) – Hudson teacher Madison Bergmann, who is charged with assaulting a 5th-grade student at River Crest Elementary School, has resigned from the district.
According to ABC 5 KSTP, Superintendent Nick Ouellette confirmed that Bergmann was placed on unpaid administrative leave from River Crest Elementary School before her resignation was approved by the school board on Tuesday night. Bergmann is banned from school property and contact with students, staff, or parents as she faces first-degree child sexual assault charges.
In a statement to parents and staff, the district stated, “Learning about a school staff member and alleged inappropriate conduct that breaches trust is deeply troubling for all of us. We understand the gravity of this situation and are committed to providing the necessary support for any child who may be impacted. We kindly request that the school community respect the privacy of Hudson students and their families and refrain from spreading rumors or speculation. The school district counseling staff are available to help any child or staff who may be experiencing difficulties with this news.”
Court documents uncovered by the outlet confirm that Bergmann is due back in court on May 30th after posting an unsecured bond for $25,000. The 11-year-old victim confirmed to law enforcement that the topic of sex had come up in conversation, and kissing did occur on several occasions. Bergmann has yet to comment on the alleged conversations or actions with authorities.
