MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – As Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers looks to rebuild his coaching staff, a former Bucks player has become one of his top targets.
According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, Rivers “plans to make an aggressive push” to sign Sam Cassell as an assistant coach. Cassell is in his first season on the Boston Celtics’ staff and previously worked for Rivers with the Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers.
Stein’s report comes after ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski recently reported that the Lakers have been granted permission to talk with Cassell and several other candidates who work for other teams for their open head coach position if Boston allows Cassell to interview elsewhere.
Cassell played for the Bucks from 1999 until 2003, averaging at least 18 points per game in each season with the franchise. He played 15 total seasons in the NBA, winning three championships and being named an NBA All-Star in 2004.
